Slow Down
Sometimes we need to listen to our bodies and slow things down.
Recently, I’ve had a few clients ask to work on improving their flexibility which has made me think about my own training. I have always enjoyed the ‘big stuff’ - weightlifting, running, cycling etc. but find it too easy to neglect the finer details: stretching, balance and flexibility.
I’ve used the last four weeks of my training to focus on yoga, stretching and slow, controlled balance exercises whilst maintaining a good level of cardio. The first couple of sessions I put myself through were pretty tough but I have felt a huge improvement as I’ve progressed.
The benefits I see in my clients from this training adaptation are now becoming apparent in my own body. I feel looser, more elastic when I run and less achey after exercise. I’ve also really enjoyed the change of pace and the sense of calm from adding yoga and Pilates into my week.
I’m looking forward to reintroducing the ‘big stuff’ again in the coming weeks but maybe with more of a lean towards the slow stuff.
